Summary
Increased crop diversity is supposed to increase productivity through more efficient use of resources. In other words, different species might use resources at different times, at different places or in different forms. In this study, which forms part of a PhD, we investigate when, where and how different crop species take up light, nitrogen and phosphorus, and if the identified differences in resource uptake explain the increased yield of mixtures compared to monocultures.
